Captive of Sin
By Anna Campbell
Avon
November 2009
Charis Weston has escaped a brutal beating and is cowering in a stable, resting until she has the strength to continue evading the men who are willing to do anything to obtain her fortune. Chance, or perhaps fate, brings Sir Gideon Trevithick to that same horse stall to bed his horse down for the night. Recognizing that Charis is in great danger, Gideon reaches out to help Charis in her escape, and thus begins Captive of Sin by Anna Campbell.
Gideon Trevithick has returned from years abroad in India, working as a translator for the British government while also spying for the Crown. After agreeing to one last final risky assignment, Trevithick and his two counterparts are captured, tortured and left for dead in little more than a hole in the ground. Trevithick survives, barely, to return home a hero with a mysterious past. Unfortunately, Gideon’s time in confinement has left him with many deep physical and psychological scars. Thankfully, his loyal friends Tulliver and Ashkar have kept him alive and have come with Gideon to England to accompany him to the family seat at Penrhyn.
Charis and Gideon have many obstacles to face both separately and individually, and at many times in the story it seems that they may indeed go their separate ways, if for no other reason than to survive. Charis realizes that she loves Gideon, but she must break down seemingly insurmountable barriers before they can both love each other freely.
Captive of Sin is a historical romance rich with suspense, drama and sensuality. Gideon and Charis’ attraction is palpable throughout the story, and readers will find themselves readily swept up into the romance between these two fragile yet strong characters. Intensely passionate on all levels, Captive of Sin is a romance reader’s dream of a novel. Don’t let this one pass you by!
