The Burning Edge
By Rick Mofina
MIRA
January 2012
Lisa Palmer has driven to upper state New York to sell a cabin that belonged to her late husband’s family. The turmoil of dealing with Bobby’s sudden death from a car accident two years earlier and now having to part with an important piece of the family history is almost too much for her to handle. On the way home she stops at the Freedom Freeway Service Center for gas, snacks and a magazine. She finds herself in a situation that will terrorize her for months to come.
American Centurion, an armored car company is making a large cash pick up of over 6.3 million dollars at the Freedom Freeway at the same time Lisa has stopped in on her way home. The next thing she knows three guards have been killed and she is lying on the floor face to face with an off-duty FBI agent who has asked her to help him retrieve his gun. She becomes the only eye-witness who can help capture the murderers.
FBI agent Frank Morrow has just been told that he has cancer and possibly only a year to live. He gets a call about shootings at a freeway center in Ramapo, New York and wants to wrap up this one last case before telling his wife and daughter about his illness. Jack Gannon is a reporter for World Press Alliance WPA and has to always be on top of the competition to keep his job. He especially wants to one up a former girlfriend who dumped him and is a rival reporter.
The murderers are part of the Red Cobra Team 9 who are trying to gather up ransom money to free hostages in Afghanistan who are being held by the New Guardians of the National Revolutionary Movement. One of the suspects who is heading up the “operation” will stop at nothing, one of the hostages is his brother.
Mofina keeps you on the edge of your seat in this latest thriller as the police, newspaper reporters and innocent victims all try to track down the suspects in this violent crime. The Burning Edge kept me up into the early morning hours—the plot is so well written that I could not put the book down!
