Karma (Serendipity)
By Carly Phillips
Berkley
May 2012
Officer Dare Barron and Liza McKnight have known each other since high school, and Dare has had a crush on her all this time. However, Dare was living in a foster home and Liza, a year ahead of him in school, was from a wealthy family. Dare sees Liza on a pretty routine schedule now when she comes to the police station frequently to bail out her brother, Brian, on some kind of alcohol related offense. Dare hates that Liza keeps enabling Brian, but it isn’t really any of his business.
Dare’s sister-in-law, Faith, is the fund raising chairwoman of the Beautification Committee for Serendipity, and asks Liza to be her assistant. Liza doesn’t have many friends in town and is willing to help. This year the money will go to the youth center rather than the downtown area, which doesn’t need any more trees. The police department volunteers to help for such a worthy cause so it is only natural that Dare and Liza will see each other on a more personal level. However, an ugly secret from Dare’s and Brian’s past keeps Dare from letting his relationship with Liza get too serious.
Carly Phillips always pleases her fans with terrific tales about love of family and beautiful romantic relationships. Ms Phillips’ characters are so fleshed out they are people you might actually know and the romance always sizzles. When you add the clever dialogue and narrative you get a fantastic read that is forever entertaining. KARMA is easy reading and reader pleasing – another super story by an amazing storyteller.
