Rules to Catch a Devilish Duke
By Suzanne Enoch
St. Martin’s Press
October 2012
A collapsed bridge leading to a plunge into an icy river brings Sophia White, illegitimate daughter of the powerful Duke of Hennessey, to Adam Baswick ’s door. Baswick, Duke of Greaves, has invited Sophia to spend the Christmas holiday at his sprawling estate in York, along with several other guests. Sophia is a friend of a friend, but Baswick also knows her from the exclusive gaming club Tantalus.
Sophia and Adam are both facing deadlines inflicted by their fathers, and although the paternal edicts are quite different from each other, those commands drive both Sophia and Adam to action. Stranded together while bridge repairs are undertaken, Sophia and Adam fall easily into a relationship that is both friend and lover. Adam is taken with Sophia ’s unassuming air and natural ease with everyone around her, and Sophia quickly breaks through the brittle shell Adam has built around his heart.
With an estate house full of guests, it becomes increasingly challenging to conceal their relationship, and Sophia knows she must make the break. Adam must marry a suitable bride, and Sophia knows her lineage and past don’t come anywhere near that standard. Can something as simple as a relationship built on friendship and trust overcome the societal pressures Adam faces? Or will he follow his heart and finally find the peace he has longed for?
It's always fun to watch an unlikely couple find their happily ever after, and Rules to Catch a Devilish Duke delivers! Sophia and Adam are interesting, their relationship is complicated from the get go, and nothing comes easy or without a price for this couple. Sophia’s strength and unassuming manner are charming, and Adam’s determination to make her his wife is most definitely swoon worthy! Rules to Catch a Devilish Duke is the third in Suzanne Enoch’s delightful Scaidalous Brides series, so if you haven’t read the prior two novels, what are you waiting for? Fantastic writing and memorable characters are Enoch’s hallmark, and this series delivers!
