A Bewitching Mystery – Book Two
Maggie O’Neill is adjusting to her newfound powers as a witch, like seeing dead people walking the streets. Felicity Dow, Maggie’s boss at Enchantments, the chic gift shop in Stony Mill, Indiana, has turned the store over to her while “Liss” is still grieving over the murder of her sister. Maggie and Evie, the high school student helping out part-time at Enchantments, are doing a brisk Christmas business, Like Maggie and Liss, Evie is a member of N.I.G.H.T.S., more commonly known as the Northeast Indiana Ghost Hunting and Tracking Society.
While Evie is helping Tara, a friend from school who is interested in some books on witchcraft, Maggie is helping another teen-ager, Amanda Robertson. Amanda has come to the store to purchase an expensive antique clock for her mother for Christmas, and pays for it with cash. The young woman and her two friends are rude and obnoxious, and when they see Tara, Maggie has to step in to prevent a cat-fight. Later on this same day, Amanda doesn’t show up for her evening job, and is reported missing by her parents. Maggie joins the townspeople who are searching for Amanda, and witnesses Tara conjuring a spell. Amanda’s body shows up the next day in a place Maggie had searched, so it is obvious the killer dumped the body in that spot during the night. Maggie feels she must report everything she knows about Amanda, her friends, and Tara to Deputy Sheriff Tom Fielding.
Madelyn Alt has created fantastic characters that possess depth and charm. The story line is taut, suspenseful and bewitching. Maggie has not given up on a relationship with Tom, even though the lawman does not approve of her friends or her abilities A Charmed Death is a fun, fast-paced, clever, spirited tale, peopled with a terrific ensemble of characters.
