The Corwin Curse ~ Book Two Mike’s Story
Detective Mike Corwin accompanies some of his buddies from the Boston Police Department to Las Vegas for the wedding of his partner. He notices a good looking woman trying to get away from a rough looking man, and being a gentleman sees if the lady needs help. She is very grateful for his interference, tells him her name is Amber and she is a native to Vegas, and offers to show his group where to go for a good time. For the rest of the day there is lots of laughing, drinking, and having an all around good time. When the others are ready to call it a night, Mike and Amber are still going strong. There is a real connection between these two other than the sexual pull. Next thing you know they agree that getting married is the right thing to do. On the way to Mike’s room he puts a lucky coin into a big pay-off slot and wins one-hundred-fifty-thousand dollars! The wedding night is wonderful, but when Mike awakens the next money both Amber and his money are gone.
Amber Rose Brenner thought she had left Vegas and con artist games for good when she made a new life for herself as a cracker-jack concierge in a five-star hotel in Beverly Hills. She just didn’t prepare herself for her father, Sam, developing Alzheimer’s and the expense of his care. She returned to Nevada and a partnership with Marshall Banks, a buddy of Sam’s, as a card counting team. She wants out, and had told Marshall that when Mike stepped in to keep Marshall from manhandling her. Mike is so handsome and sweet, and she wants to forget all of her responsibilities for just one day. Joining this group and showing them her town was the best things that had happened to her in a long time, and marrying Mike seemed so right, even if they had just met. However, leaving him and taking his money was so wrong, but she had no choice. Therefore, when she shows up in Boston with seventy-five thousand dollars for him, Amber isn’t surprised that Mike wants nothing from her but a divorce.
What a fun book! Mike’s eccentric father is priceless, as is Clara, a woman who loves him even if he is nuts. Amber loves the family dynamics of the Corwin’s. His cousin Derek and his wife are on her side, but Derek still has some strong feelings about the Corwin curse, and fears Mike is probably a victim of it.
Carly Phillips pulls out all the stops in LUCKY STREAK. There are bad guys trying to find Amber and good guys protecting her. There’s laugh-out-loud humor, and toe curling romance. Ms. Phillips’ perfect pacing and fabulous sense of humor makes this second entry of “The Corwin Curse” a sure-fire hit. LUCKY STREAK is enchanting, delightful, and entertaining with enough sexual heat to thaw your deep-freezer.
