Product Description:

When Holly Heckerling heads to Hollywood to work as an animal trainer on a big-budget movie, she finds herself fantasizing about leaving New York behind for good. But she's reluctant to say goodbye to her boyfriend, Tom, or Tallullah, the monkey who stole her heart during a pet-sitting assignment. Plus, even though she's in her element wrangling monkeys, ducks, and snakes, she isn't sure how to handle the A-list actor who's following her around like a lovesick puppy. Soon she realizes her real decision isn't where to live, but to whom she should give her heart.

New York is expensive, and Holly Heckerling is having a hard time making ends meet with her multitude of part-time jobs. Her relationship has just made it to an unexpected six months, and their anniversary date turned into one long disaster. When her friends Danny and Carter call her from California asking that she be Carter’s Lamaze coach, she agrees but has little instruction before she’s on a plane and rushing off to the west coast.

The trip itself is marked with disaster from the moment Holly’s plane lands, and her life turns crazier than ever when she visits the movie set Danny is working on. For some reason the hunky lead in the movie, Colin Daltry, has an interest in her that Holly just can’t figure out. He encourages her to help him with the animal interaction in his scenes to keep her on an otherwise closed set. Having worked with Tallulah, her friend David’s trained monkey, and a variety of other animals, Holly is confident enough to take on a new job as animal trainer and makes a decent salary doing something she enjoys.

The time for Holly’s whirlwind Hollywood experience to come to an end is soon upon her as her life in New York draws her back. With a family emergency, a wedding to attend, a business to run, and a relationship on the rocks, Holly once again finds herself rushing for a flight, this time bound for home to the family and friends she briefly left behind.

Monkey Star is the wonderfully zany sequel to Monkey Love. In Holly’s life there is rarely a dull moment, and flying from the east coast to the west changes very little when it comes to her bizarre luck. With a fabulous dose of humor, Ms. Scott Royce takes readers on a roller coaster ride of ups and downs in the life of young woman looking for her place in life. Fast moving and way too much fun to set down, readers won’t be able to resist laughing at the wacky, but wholly believable world of Holly Heckerling.

Monkey Star: (2008-03-21)
I loved this book. It is hilarious and I can't wait for her to write another book in the series. I keep very few books when I'm done reading them but I have kept this series and I hope there will be a third one to add to my collection. (Hint! Hint!) I love books that make you laugh out loud which these do! Keep them coming!

Sort of disappointing follow up to Monkey Love: (2007-12-04)
With barely enough cash to pay the rent, a relationship that seems to be going nowhere, and a family that drives her nuts, Holly looks forward to heading to LA to care for her best friend whose just had a baby. Following former comedy partner Danny to the set of the movie in which he's cast in a bit role turns out to be lucrative for Holly, as she is asked to step in as an animal wrangler due to her stint in "Monkey School." An unexpected potential romance blooms between Holly and the films' up and coming bad boy star Colin Daltry. Will she remain in Hollywood where she can make more in a day than she used to make in a week, or will she return to her New York roots? Decisions, decisions...

Royce's follow up to the hysterical "Monkey Love" starts out with a bang, but loses steam once Holly changes coasts. It is a disappointing follow up, only because "Love" is a hard act to follow. Holly is at her comedic best when playing off her eccentric family and the goofy situations she finds herself in. It's like the laughs just sort of ended once she stopped fighting with her rental car's GPS system. The romance with Colin is a bit contrived; and the character of boyfriend Tom is never really fleshed out to mae him three dimensional. But no scene can compare to the slapstick antics of trying to get into her locked apartment. That had me laughing hysterically. I am hoping for more adventures with Holly and company, as Royce has a wonderfully wry sense of humor that really flows in her writing.

But I still don't get the whole celebrity socks thing...

Monkey Star Shines!: (2007-09-09)
Seriously goofy, laugh out loud and chuckle kind of book. And when you least suspect it, she touches your heart. Monkey Star is an unconventional love story, and it's lots of fun!

Fans will enjoy this wild crazy contemporary tale: (2007-08-11)
When has best friend Carter gives birth prematurely Manhattanite Holly Heckerling travels to Los Angeles to help her. Packing her bags with no notice proves easy for Holly although her menagerie makes travel difficult. She knows she can find work as a stand up comic in California and her relationship with Tom is seemingly over; she knows she will miss Tallulah the monkey more than her former boyfriend.

In California, Carter's husband (and Holly's former comedic partner) Danny arranges for their visitor to obtain work on a Hollywood set. She is to nurture and train animal stars. Her toughest assignment proves not to be monkeys especially since Tallulah has joined her snakes, ducks; oh my; her most difficult thespian is actor Colin Daltry whose puppy love is driving Holly up a tree.

Holly of MONKEY LOVE fame goes west to cause havoc in Hollywood as she did in Manhattan. Once again ignoring WC Field's first law of stardom not to perform with children or animals, Holly's co-stars are a menagerie. Tallulah is as zany as ever while Holly trips her way through one fiasco after another with Colin panting for her. Fans will enjoy this wild crazy contemporary as the laughs keep coming in this jocular frolic.
