Product Description:
On Manhattan's Upper East Side a woman lies dead at the bottom of the stairs, stripped of all her valuables. Most cops might call it a mugging gone wrong, but Lieutenant Eve Dallas knows better.
A well-off accountant and a beloved wife and mother, Marta Dickenson doesn’t seem the type to be on anyone's hit list. But when Eve and her partner, Peabody, find blood inside the building, the lieutenant knows Marta's murder was the work of a killer who's trained, but not professional or smart enough to remove all the evidence.
But when someone steals the files out of Marta's office, Eve must immerse herself in her billionaire husband Roarke's world of big business to figure out who's cruel and callous enough to hire a hit on an innocent woman. And as the killer's violent streak begins to escalate, Eve knows she has to draw him out, even if it means using herself as bait. . . .

The year is 2060 and Lt. Eve Dallas and Detective Delia Peabody have the unfortunate task of investigating the murder of Marta Dickenson. It appears to be a mugging gone bad, but appearances can be deceiving.
Marta was an accountant and her husband an attorney. Her body was found in a vacant building by the owner of that building. Was there a connection there to the murder?
Dallas’ husband, Roarke, is a very wealthy man financially but also had a wealth of knowledge to assist in the investigation. Their relationship has survived a sordid past for both of them.
Marta left behind 2 kids as well as her husband. When someone breaks into her office to steal her files, the investigation takes a new turn. Something Marta had been working on before her death has someone scared.
A movie premiere featuring a famous case Dallas Peabody solved adds to Dallas’ frustration. She hates being in the spotlight. When more murders occur, the connection becomes clearer.
Dallas and Peabody become targets of the murderer but come away unscathed for the most part this time. The murderer is getting too close and needs to be taken down before someone else dies. Using the premiere as a place to lure the killer is tricky but needs to be done. Dallas doesn’t need to be looking over her shoulder the rest of her life wondering when he will hit next.
J. D. Robb’s futuristic cop series keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters are endearing and extremely likable, almost like family members. Dallas is a good cop and her instincts are right on. You won’t be able to put this one down.
